Neu Collective Agreement Nunavut

Personnel Minister David Akeeagok was invited to the Legislative Assembly on September 14 to initiate binding arbitration to regulate a collective agreement. GN`s collective agreement with NEU, which sets out the salaries and benefits of more than 4,000 GN employees, expired at the end of September 2018. “It`s before the courts, but it shouldn`t stop these ongoing negotiations, and I encourage our collective bargaining leaders and the Nunavut Employees Union to come back to the table,” Human Resources Minister David Akeeagok told the May 27 Legislature. Photo courtesy of the Legislative Assembly In light of an ongoing territorial election, Rochon said he believes the expired agreement has become a campaign issue and hopes the next group of MPs will enter the legislature. The union filed a complaint against the GN in the Nunavut court in November 2019, accusing the territorial government of violating the Public Service Act in bad faith. The lawsuit is seeking $50,000 in damages for the alleged failure to work in good faith to reach a new collective agreement and would force the GN to make “all reasonable efforts” to reach an agreement. The union had three years to reach an agreement, half the time was pandemic-free. Bill Fennell`s position as president is in the running for the October 7 election. It seems that he is trying to run for this position again by launching this campaign. This campaign is interested.

If the union really cared about its members, it would have already signed an agreement and would not have sued the GN, which would have slowed down and complicated the negotiations. Now they want a strike vote as we approach the coldest months during a pandemic. This is the true definition of ridicule! Focus instead on signing a new agreement! “They are waiting for a trial. You don`t want to sit with us until the trial is over. This has been dragging on for too long and I encourage them to come back. We`re ready. We are ready to reach an agreement with our collective agreements,” said the Minister. “I applaud our hard work in the public service and hope that we will reach a collective agreement that both parties can accept.” “I think this is the first time we`ve seen three of our unions negotiated at the same time.

We hoped and expected that the NEW collective agreement would be finalized by then, as you indicated and as we all want to see, but it is precisely in this situation,” he said. As a government, we are prepared to negotiate all three collective agreements. Since the collective agreement expired more than three years ago, union members have not seen any wage increases or changes to their benefits. I think there has to be an agreement between the GN and the union that if both parties don`t do anything with the workers, the union is happy, so there is no reason to have an active union, they will leave themselves alone. There must be an underlying reason for the toxicity that has developed in the workplace. Someone is not doing their job. It`s time to hold both to account. There are problems for Nunavut that go far beyond extending a collective agreement for well-paid government employees. “The GN and the NEU worked hard to reach this agreement; a fair solution that meets the needs of our employees. I am very pleased and thank NEU for its continued representation on behalf of its members,” said Treasury Secretary Keith Peterson. For immediate release, GN and NEU sign new collective agreement Iqaluit-Niaqunnguu MP Pat Angnakak asked for an explanation as to why the Government of Nunavut has not commenced binding arbitration with the Nunavut Employees Union (NEU), which operates under a collective agreement that expired in September 2018.

“Every time we`ve had to do a strike vote – which is almost every time we get a new collective agreement – [I say], the best way to avoid a strike is to give ourselves a strong strike mandate.” The Nunavut Employees Union (NEU) is urging its members to pressure MPP candidates for a new collective agreement, as the last one expired three years ago, on September 30. “The GN workers` union wants collective bargaining to become a `central theme` of territorial elections.” Very easy to access. . Hit now. The Government of Nunavut knew it had misjudged part of an offer to the Nunavut Workers` Union for four months before revealing the mistake that blocked negotiations on a new collective agreement. $17 MILLION? I`m pretty sure GN gave airlines and their South-based parent companies a lot more than millions of dollars to fly empty planes last year! Can they not appreciate the basic GN staff who maintain services in Nunavut as much as the southern companies who harass us every day? Are we going to look at our next increases? Has anyone seen that the Canadian CPI is above 4.4% PER YEAR? The lack of respect for LARP employees is outrageous. No vacation without quarantine at the hotel while management was paid to work in hubs or hubs. Now they want to delay the conclusion of collective bargaining on this paltry sum? Nunavut`s allocation for the North is slightly 25% lower than inflation simply because it is not increased for 12 years, and every year it is worse. The HR Minister should fire THE LOT of MPs and management who refuse to make this agreement. The new union leader is expected to call for a strike mandate. . No water, no reward, no respect, full.

“Having a negotiated deal is an outcome we want to see,” he said. “To be told to go through arbitration, which is essentially said, what to do is not the way to go.” IQALUIT, Nunavut (November 23, 2016) – The Government of Nunavut (GN) and the Nunavut Employees Union (NEU) today signed a new collective agreement. Their last collective agreement – which includes things like compensation, benefits and leave – expired three years ago. The NEU did not strike during the COVID-19 pandemic, although it went through the longest period without a negotiated agreement in the organization`s history. The Nunavut Employees Union wants its long-standing negotiations on a new collective agreement to be an important issue in these territorial elections. Personnel Minister David Akeeagok responded to the Legislative Assembly on May 27: “Arbitration is an instrument, but both sides must agree. From our perspective, I still see that there is room for this agreement to be negotiated with the Nunavut Employees Union, and I am determined to see this agreement negotiated in good faith by both parties. Minister David Akeeagok – You have to go out! You need to be told what to do! if you don`t do anything about it! The lack of respect for LARP employees is outrageous. Management pockets all the money that circulates to work in hubs or hubs. Now they want to delay the conclusion of collective bargaining by more than $17 million? CALL NOW FOR A STRIKE! Angnakak noted that GN`s collective agreement with the Nunavut Teachers` Association expires on June 30 and Qulliq Energy Corporation`s collective agreement with NEU expires on December 31.

It requested an update on those negotiations. The ministry announced the error next month, four days before mediation began – a step taken if no agreement can be reached. Both sides said they could not discuss the details of the offers made or what is being negotiated until an agreement is reached. .
